On Beyond Zebra: When ActiveRecord Isn’t Enough
Methods for how to drill down into arcane database work that doesn’t easily fit Active Record’s model.
- Use find_by_sql -fast but arcane
- break complex calls into several simpler ones and merge - clear and more incrementally testable but expensive - more calls and slower ruby sorting instead of faster database sorting - and pagination breaks down.
Example scenario and lots of good helpful comments.
Read The Source, Luke: A Reader’s Guide To Browsing Rails Source
Excellent very high level guide to the rails source.
Interview with an Adware Author
Fascinating interview with an adware author. Truly evil stuff to keep an IE BHO installed. Immutable registry keys because of ASCII to unicode conversions and some interesting adware war info about how they turned your computer into a battlefield where they fought over who could be installed on your computer.
